Patrick McDonnell 最有名的作品就是一九九四年開始創作至今的Mutts 。狗狗Mooch 為了該送什麼生日禮物給狗友Earl 而傷腦筋，牠以為有種東西叫做nothing ，於是決定以此為禮物。但是找了半天，就是不知道哪裡有賣nothing ，最後送了一只裡頭空空如也的盒子。正是因為沒有東西，兩個好朋友才能不受干擾，靜靜欣賞窗外美景。線條簡單、筆法精湛，卻有詼諧溫厚的人生智慧。
